Treatment -
Once the diagnosis is made and documented in every detail to the patient, a full briefing follows regarding the therapeutic options that are indicated for the most effective treatment of the problem. The selection of the appropriate therapeutic approach is a specialized and personalized process. From the overall therapeutic quiver, only those therapeutic means are strictly recommended that have indisputably documented safety and effectiveness, as defined by scientific protocols and modern therapeutic algorithms.
The patient actively participates in all decision-making processes with the aim of drawing up the most ideal treatment plan according to his own personal needs and preferences.
Pharmaceutical Education -
The enormous developments in the field of psychiatry over the last two decades and the understanding of the biological processes behind psychiatric symptoms have led to the discovery of many new, highly sophisticated, safe and effective medications.
Modern pharmaceutical options have improved the lives of millions of people without the negative effects of older drugs and have definitively abolished many myths of the past regarding psychopharmacology.
Drug treatment should be chosen exclusively in those cases where it is deemed necessary. The administration of psychotropic drugs is a specialized medical procedure and must be performed exclusively by a specialist psychiatrist and under close psychiatric monitoring.
Unfortunately, in our country, the phenomenon of prescribing psychiatric drugs by doctors of other specialties is observed on a large scale, with often tragic consequences for the patient.
Psychotherapy
Psychotherapy is often the appropriate therapeutic option, while at other times it can complement biological therapy with drugs or rTMS therapy with spectacular results.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
- It is a scientifically proven dialectical therapy for a wide range of psychological disorders and illnesses.
- It is recommended as the treatment of choice for many mental disorders throughout the Western world.
- It can be used independently or in combination with appropriate medication or rTMS, depending on the needs of the patient.
- It helps the client to recognize and understand their problem based on the relationship between thoughts, feelings and behavior.
- It is based on the assumption that our behavior is primarily something we have "learned" and has been shaped by interaction with the environment around us. Thus, our experiences so far in life and the way we have developed behavior affect how we think about ourselves and others, how we feel, and how we act in various life situations.
- Therapy "teaches" new ways of behavior and alternative strategies for managing various situations in the client's life. This gradually leads to the replacement of previous dysfunctional models of thought and behavior with new, more useful ones.
Schema Therapy -
- It complements the Cognitive-Behavioral approach, especially with regard to chronic character problems and personality disorders.
- It constitutes an autonomous, comprehensive and empirically documented psychotherapy model.
- It is based on three basic concepts. The concept of schema, the concept of problematic coping strategies and the concept of mode of operation.
- Schema therapy is a modern and holistic therapeutic intervention in conditions such as chronic anxiety, chronic emotional disorders and chronic difficulties in relationships with others.
Existential Psychotherapy -
- It belongs to the humanistic-experiential therapies and focuses on self-awareness, finding meaning, the uniqueness of the individual and the equal therapeutic relationship.
- It is a dynamic psychotherapeutic approach that concerns existence itself.
- The therapy is based on the assumption that psychological difficulties arise from our confrontation with the facts of existence. Therefore, behind everyday worries and concerns lie the four structures of human existence: death, the meaning of life, freedom and isolation.
- It is a process of inner search through which we can get to know ourselves and come into contact with our deepest needs. It is a method that facilitates the process of awareness by expanding the horizon of our narrow individual existence and is inextricably linked to Existential Philosophy and its practical applications in everyday life.
- Therapy is not determined by any strict method or rules of treatment. The therapeutic relationship in Existential Psychotherapy is the main therapeutic factor.
- The therapeutic process presupposes the therapist's heightened sensitivity to existential issues and requires on his part deep knowledge and inherent philosophical orientation.
Psychoeducation / Counseling
- It is a specialized therapeutic intervention that combines the provision of education with psychotherapeutic elements.
- Its main goal is to help the patient understand and better cope with their problem. It also contributes to the disclosure and correction of misconceptions about the disease, through the transmission of valid knowledge about the causes, treatment, course and prognosis of the mental disorder.
- It gives the patient and his family the logic that governs the treatment, in order to facilitate the understanding of the problem and the acceptance of the appropriate therapeutic intervention, factors that lead to the comprehensive and effective treatment of the mental disorder.
- It encourages the active participation of patients in making decisions regarding treatment while at the same time promoting the participation of families in the therapeutic process.
